Hikari no Machi Hakata
The plaza in front of Hakata Station becomes, for ten weeks, a town built of light. From November 3 to January 11, between five in the evening and eleven at night, Hikari no Machi — "City of Light, Hakata" — greets everyone the station produces: travelers just off the Shinkansen seeing their first Fukuoka winter, office workers crossing the square for the ten-thousandth time, someone waiting for someone who is late. A station plaza belongs to no one in particular. That is the point. The light falls equally on every homeward path.
