# Saitama Seikaji Onsen

The source was found in 1999, somewhere beneath the quiet fields of Seikaji, in the western reaches of Saitama City. A temporary bathhouse opened a few years later, almost as if the water needed time to be trusted before anything permanent was built around it. The formal facility followed in 2006. There is something honest in that measured pace — the sense that the place came into being gradually, without fanfare, shaped more by what rose from the ground than by any particular vision of what a hot spring should look like.

The water itself is a sodium-chloride spring, warm and mineral-laden, and the outdoor bath runs on a free-flow system — meaning what you enter is what comes directly from the earth, unrecirculated, unchanged. That distinction matters more than it might first seem. The water feels present in a way that processed water does not. You are aware, gently, that something is arriving and passing through, that you are briefly part of a continuous flow rather than soaking in a static pool.

Seikaji sits within reach of central Tokyo by bus or taxi from Nishi-Omiya Station, and most people who come do so for a single afternoon. But to stay in the area for several nights, returning each evening to the same outdoor bath as the light changes, is to understand the place differently. It becomes less an amenity and more a rhythm — the kind that a neighborhood builds its quiet hours around.
