# Matsuhagawa Onsen

Deep in the mountains of Kochi Prefecture, past the last bend of the road from Kubokawa, the valley closes around you before the single inn appears. This is Matsuhagawa Onsen, known quietly as the innermost retreat of the Shimanto River country — not the river itself, with its clear shallows and canoe traffic, but the folded terrain behind it, where the air carries a different weight.
