This park carries a person's name. Isa city writes that Tadamoto shrine, dedicated to the Shimazu retainer Niiro Musashi-no-kami Tadamoto, stands within the grounds, with a stele bearing his poem to the west of it. The park and the shrine take their name from the same man, and the avenue of cherry trees runs about two kilometres through ground that was named for him first.

At night a thousand paper lanterns are lit.

Kagoshima prefecture describes that lighting along the avenue and says the park was chosen for the national list of a hundred cherry sites in 1990, with the flowers at their best from late March into early April. Two kilometres is a long line of trees to light by lantern rather than by floodlight, and it makes the walk rather than the view the thing on offer.

The naming is worth noticing. Most sites on the list are called after a place: a river, a castle, a hill, a district. This one is called after a person, and the shrine that holds his name sits inside the same fence as the trees. The cherry avenue was laid through ground that already belonged to somebody in that sense, which is a different order of events from a park planted first and named afterwards for whatever was nearby.
