Shirakawa-go Winter Light-up

Snow on the steep thatched roofs, and lamplight underneath: the Shirakawa-go light-up is four evenings a year. In 2027, January 11, 17, 24 and 31 — two hours each, 5:30 to 7:30. Everything is by advance reservation; there are no same-day tickets, parking opens for booking on December 1 at 1 p.m., and a day trip by public bus is not possible. Decide to go, and the first step is the reservation. The village of Ogimachi, white-hooded and faintly glowing, is the picture everyone already knows. The picture exists on four nights only.
