Reborn-Art Festival
Gathering
On the scars of the tsunami, art rises. Ishinomaki in Miyagi, and the Oshika Peninsula, were struck hard by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011. The waves swallowed the town; many lives were lost. In that place, an art festival is held, called Reborn-Art, art that is born again. It is not only art; music and food are made one with it, treating the whole of living here. Works are scattered along the peninsula's shore, holding both the memory of what was lost and hope for what is yet to come. Recovery, perhaps, is not a return to what was, but a rebirth into something new. The sea is still beautiful, the same sea that brought such disaster. Facing it, people begin once more to make something. Even having lost, people are creatures who create.
